Public music performances are a beautiful thing. A saxophone echoing through a subway corridor, a pianist at a grand piano in the middle of a city park, a guitarist drawing a crowd on a busy sidewalk — these moments transform ordinary spaces into places people remember. Street Sound Society exists to create more of them.

We are a placemaking company built around one idea: live street music makes cities, districts, and public spaces better. We give municipalities, business improvement districts, real estate developers, venues, and transit authorities the tools to bring professionally managed live music into their environments — easily, legally, and at scale.

What Is Busking?

Busking is the act of performing live for a public crowd. It is one of the oldest forms of live entertainment, and one of the most democratic. Anyone can busk — pick up an instrument, step outside, perform a little song or dance, and watch the life you bring to a growing audience. Busking turns passive spaces into active ones. It draws foot traffic, extends dwell time, and gives a neighborhood its character.

Street Sound Society was founded on the belief that busking deserves infrastructure — not bureaucracy, but real tools that help cities welcome performers and help performers find the right stages.

Three Pillars of Placemaking

Everything we do falls into three categories, each reinforcing the others:

The Street Sound App is our iOS platform for busking zone management. Cities use it to designate performance zones, schedule performers, and deploy digital signage — giving structure to street music without killing the spontaneity that makes it special. The app is the operational backbone for any city that wants to run a world-class busking program.

Cadenza Outdoor Pianos are all-weather, permanently installed pianos built to live outdoors year-round. Currently placed in five cities across two countries, Cadenza pianos invite anyone — trained or untrained — to sit down and play. They are placemaking instruments in the most literal sense: objects that turn a bench or a plaza into a destination.

The Artist Network — great street musicians are everywhere; you just need to know where to look. That's why we point cities and developers to Busk.co, a worldwide network of over 14,000 buskers and artists who've done incredible work building a global home for street music. We help you activate your space, and when you need to source musicians and find talent, Busk.co is where the world's performers already are.
